Yes, 25% less income for Stoneham this season and this season Stoneham received more than 600cm of snow, breaking the previous record by far. Every resort in the Province of Québec mesured an increase of riders and skiers, up to 40% at some resort, due to the exceptional snowfall, but not Stoneham. What wrong you ask me? RCR! They under estimate the impact of removing the jumps. In Quebec you don't have much option to freeride, like the West coast have. So no park, the rider go elsewhere and it's what they did. RCR is making a “crisis” meeting this week to discuss that. They recorded stats this season to measure if investing in a park worth it. What for ? You remove jumps and 25% of your income go away, what if with no park and a standard or even a low snowfall season … 50% ? … More ? RCR is in hot water right now and it make me smile. |

Sorry for the little update lately, I would like to bring you good news but it's quite the opposite and it look bad. Mr. Murray “Snowparks slayer” Edwards, continue his crusade for saving money aka “Making RCR resort safer”. This week Mr. Edwards was at the Snowboard jamboree in Quebec City. The jamboree is a 1 week snowboard event with different competitions and venues (Urban jib competition, FIS world cup, Fashion show, etc). RCR was proud to tell there are glad to be a part of such a big snowboard event and at the same time Mr. Edwards was there, in person, to evaluate if it’s worth making a terrain park at Stoneham and Mont Sainte Anne. That’s really hypocrite! So this could mean no snowparks in the 2 of the 3 only resorts close to Quebec City for the future. That would certainly kill the snowboard scene and would be hard on local shops, but that, Mr. Edwards probably don’t care at all. Have you ever seen a corporation caring for the good of the population anyway ? I know Lake Louise is in this position, if not worst. A ski patrol said if the lawyers don’t find a legal solution next year there will be not park at all. If someone can help, I would like to know the situation for the others resorts. |

Hi, arr4ws brought something on its blog. He talked with a ski patrol and he said event if there are no jumps in Stoneham snowpark's, there is more injuries. Like a lot of us said, education and prevention may be the key, jumps or rails both are dangerous with a bad riding behavior. For all the story: French here / English here (translation) |
